JFS Community Support Specialist
The North Louisiana Jewish Federation, along with our Board of Directors and Jewish Family Services Committee, seeks a dynamic individual passionate about supporting individuals and families across all life stages. The ideal candidate will help community members navigate everyday challenges through assessment, information, referrals, and dedicated case management.

The North Louisiana Jewish Federation is a non-profit organization promoting the Jewish values of hesed (caring and compassion), tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (charity and social justice), and Torah (Jewish learning) through educational, social, and cultural programming for the Jewish community and their neighbors in North Louisiana and beyond.
ABOUT THIS INITIATIVE
Jewish Family Services (JFS) of the North Louisiana Jewish Federation is committed to providing a broad range of social support services to adults and families – with a particular focus on the needs of the aging population, those living alone, disabled, financially vulnerable, and other underserved groups.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Community Support Specialist position will start at 10-15 hours weekly. The appropriate candidate is self-directed, organized, possesses well-developed cultural and interpersonal competencies, is results-oriented, and is comfortable engaging and interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Community Support Specialist will focus primarily on information and referral for challenges related to mental health, crises, housing, food, transportation, disabilities, and issues of aging. Case management services may include long-term care placement, respite services, medical & mental health needs, in-home assistance, and caregiver support.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess client and community needs (in consultation with individuals, families, rabbis, and community agencies) and provide supportive, emotional, and financial assistance as appropriate.
- Provide information, referrals, advocacy, and outreach to assist community members in navigating local social support systems, arranging appointments, and establishing rapport with external agencies.
- Collect and distribute funds and supplies for needy families during Jewish holidays.
- Maintain accurate client records, expenditure tracking, and documentation of consumer interactions and time spent while ensuring complete confidentiality.
- Recruit and coordinate a team of volunteers to assist with program activities and tasks as needed.
- Attend Chesed committee meetings and prepare regular reports detailing accomplishments and metrics for the committee and Federation board.
- Keep the community informed about Social Service activities through regular newsletter articles and other communication channels.
- Plan and execute client and community programs aligned with the mission and goals of the Jewish Federation’s Social Service program.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience (5+ years preferred), with existing knowledge of and connections to local community resources.
- Deep appreciation, knowledge, and comfort managing cases involving Jewish culture, traditions, religious laws, and values.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently while managing job pressures and maintaining objectivity and confidentiality.
- Strong verbal communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace tools.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
COMPENSATION
This opportunity offers the ability to make a significant impact in growing the Social Services program of the North Louisiana Jewish Federation. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualification.
